Raouche I is an installation merging a personal history alongside the national history of Lebanon, specifically the Lebanese Civil War. The dates on the the post-it notes chronicle the timeline of the war, at times overlapping with key moments in my father's life, his leaving Beirut due to the unrest, and culminating in my birth in the U.S. in 1990.
The objects in the space represent the buildings, but utilize book cloth, awl driven holes, and metal structures as stand-ins for the large rocks known as Raouche, along the Beirut boardwalk, or Corniche.
